Shanti Samaj awards scholarships to 20 girls from Mugu

Kathmandu, Oct 9: The Human Rights and Peace Society, has granted a total of Rs 2 lakh in scholarships, with each of the 20 underprivileged girls from the Dalit community in Mugu receiving Rs 10,000. 

These scholarships have been distributed among Dalit students from ten different schools. Sarita Poudel, the deputy director of the society, shared that the scholarships for the year 2083 BS were handed out during the annual general meeting of the Shanti Samaj Mugu branch, which took place in Gamgadhi. 

The event was presided over by Mugu branch president Chitra Bahadur Malla, with contributions from the society's general secretary Prakash Shahi, Surkhet branch president SR Pandey, secretary Resham Bahadur Bhandari, and others who highlighted the peace society's initiatives on climate justice and promoting harmony. 

Over the past three years, the society has awarded a remarkable total of Rs 2.7 million to girls in Karnali, under the inspiring motto 'Educate daughters: Increase dignity.' 

This year, 20 girls from remote Karnali have received scholarships funded by the interest from a revolving fund established by the society in 2082 BS.
