Potential Cyclone Arnab: Alertness urged during vehicular operations
Kathmandu, Oct 29: The Federation of Nepalese Transport Entrepreneurs (FNTE) has urged transport operators to keep increased vigilance in vehicular operations, considering potential impact of Cyclone Arnab.
Federation's Secretary General, Deknath Gautam, issuing a notice today, urged transport operators to remain extra careful in operations from tonight until October 31, in view of the prevalence of bad weather in various provinces across the country.
Citing the notice issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the Federation warned that Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are likely to be more affected by the weather, while the Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces could face strong winds and moderate rainfall, and snowfall is possible in the Himalayan areas, urging necessary precautions.
Secretary General Gautam asked entrepreneurs to coordinate with security agencies and local administrations in the concerned districts to operate both long and short distance passenger and cargo vehicles.
The Federation also advised that if the situation becomes risky, transport should be stopped as needed, and the public should be informed in advance before any suspension.
The Federation has urged the general public to contact the Meteorology Department hotline at 1155 for weather-related information and at 1234, 100, or 1114 to seek help during disasters.
