Last rites of senior poet Shrestha performed with national honour
Kathmandu, Aug 18: The Last rites of Nepali and Nepal Bhasa senior poet Durgalal Shrestha were performed with national honour.
Shrestha, who passed away at his Budhanilkantha-based residence on Sunday night at the age of 93, was cremated at Shovabhagawati on Tuesday evening.
On the occasion, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, as well as other senior personalities paid last tributes to late Shrestha.
Earlier, a procession carrying the mortal remains of Shrestha had started from Shova Bhagawati and concluded after reaching the same place going through Chhetrapati, Thahiti, Bangemuda, Asan, Janabahal, Kilagal and Nardevi.
Senior personalities of different sectors, litterateurs, artists, musicians, well-wishers and general people also paid tributes to late Shrestha.
With the demise of Shrestha, Nepali literature has lost a powerful literary figure, who built a literary bridge between Nepal Bhasa and Nepali language. He spent more than seven decades in the promotion of poem, song, child literature, drama and Nepal Bhasa for around seven decades.
Madan Puraskar Guthi had honoured Shrestha with the 'Jagadamba-Shree' award for his contribution on literature sector.
Born in 1992 BS in Kathmandu, Shrestha's first poem 'Dui Thopa' was published in 2009. The famous songs --'Saya Thari Baja Eutai Taal', 'Phoolko Aankhanma Phoolai Sansara' are Shrestha's creations.
