Kathmandu, Aug. 15: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has urged all concerned sides to coordinate their efforts in the search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation of individuals affected by disasters caused by incessant rainfall across the country.
Taking to her social media account on Saturday, former President Bhandari urged the authorities to identify vulnerable settlements and families and relocate them to safer places as necessary.
Bhandari also asked all to prioritize post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation of the disaster survivors. 
Expressing her sorrow over the huge loss of lives and property incurred by the recent monsoon-induced disasters such as flood, landslide and inundation in districts of Rolpa, Bajura, Jajarkot, Kaski and Parbat, she paid tribute to those who lost their lives in those disasters.
Extending condolences to the bereaved families, the former President also wished the injured ones a speedy recovery. 
Noting that the risks of flood, landslides, inundation and erosion still persist, Bhandari underscored the need to make disaster preparedness and risk-reduction measures more effective in view of changing climate and weather-related risks.
She also urged the public to remain alert to weather and update themselves with disaster-related information and early warnings.
She also requested the public to avoid unnecessary travel to risky areas, stay away from river and stream banks and make necessary preparations to keep themselves, their families and communities safe from potential hazards.
She viewed that natural disasters cannot be completely prevented but timely preparedness, accurate information, vigilance and effective rescue and relief management measures could significantly reduce human losses. 
For disaster risk management and reduction, she pointed out the need for cooperation and coordination among the government agencies, civil society and the general public.
