US Military Says Four Killed in Strike on Suspected Drug-Smuggling Boat in Caribbean

Washington, August 26 : The US military said on Wednesday that four people were killed in a strike on a boat suspected of drug smuggling in the Caribbean Sea, as the Trump administration continues its campaign against alleged drug traffickers in the region.

US Southern Command said in a post on X that its Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere carried out the strike on Tuesday against a vessel operating along established drug-trafficking routes in the Caribbean. The command said intelligence had confirmed the vessel was involved in drug trafficking and that four people were killed.

The command did not identify those killed or provide details on the precise location of the strike.

Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and independent United Nations experts have condemned the US strikes on suspected drug-smuggling vessels, with critics questioning their legality and the evidence presented by the US military to substantiate the alleged involvement of the targeted vessels in drug trafficking.

The Trump administration began the campaign in September 2025 against vessels it says are being used to transport drugs. According to AP, Tuesday's strike brings the reported death toll from the campaign to at least 227 people across 68 strikes on boats.
